Rock Out With Your Cock Out

Sex Monkey

As I mentioned the other day, when I’m not working, eating or sleeping I enjoy spending a little time playing Rock Band on my PlayStation 3. The only problem is that once I start playing, I can’t stop. In fact, the only reason I’m writing this post right now is because Electric Version by The New Pornographers on expert was kicking my ass. That being said, Rock Band is the best money I’ve spent on a video game, ever.

But the spending doesn’t stop there, thanks to the folks at Harmonix who release 3 new tracks each and every week for the very reasonable price of $1.99 per song (sometimes available as a bundle for $5.49). This downloadable content is my crack. If I’ve had a little too much to drink, watch out! I’m buying everything - songs by Weezer, David Bowie, The Monkees (don’t judge, you love Last Train to Clarksville as much as I do), Oasis and more.

This week’s releases leave something to be desired, but I cannot wait for the following week. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers pack, featuring my personal favorite Under the Bridge turns out the Chilli Peppers pack was a hoax. We’ll be getting more STP, Weezer and Garbage instead. I’m still happy, though perhaps wild horses couldn’t could drag me away from my PS3. I’ll have to be more diligent in my Rock Band research before getting my hopes up from now on.

But the point of all this is to establish why I’m in a bit of a quandary this week. You see, Virgin Megastores, MTV Games and 1UP Networks are running an I Love Rock Band tournament today at 6:30pm. Just five minutes away from my apartment at the Union Square Virgin location. Finally a chance for my band (Sex Monkey if you’re curious) to bask in the fame they rightly deserve and vie for wonderful prizes.

Why is this a problem? Well, Wednesday night is dodgeball night, and being team captain, I feel an obligation to my team (Pepe’s Cheese Bitches). Sigh. I guess I’ll just have to catch it next year, it’s not like the Union Square Virgin Megastore is closing or anything.
