Bring Your Own Booze: Cherin Sushi

Bring Your Own Booze

My fiancée and I decided to go out to dinner this past Saturday, and the choice of venue came down to “where can we go out to eat and also drink cheaply?” Having recently dined at the newly opened BYOB Thai-Seafood establishment Catch de Fish, we had caught the cheap alcohol bug. Adrianne was under the impression that there is a dearth of such establishments in NYC, but a little digging opened our eyes to Cherin Sushi (East 6th St, between 2nd and 3rd Ave).

We arrived around 10pm to a short wait and a table of NYU students armed with a case of cheap wine (thank you Trader Joe’s) doing their best grown-up impression. From what I understand there is a $5 surcharge for BYOB after your first bottle on Friday and Saturday, though one huge bottle of sake was all we needed.

The sushi at Cherin is quite good as well, although as the menu notes, their rolls look smaller because they use less rice. While this is true, they also charge a reasonable price for what you get. With the exception of a handful of rolls, most anything on the menu is no more than $6. There is also a early bird special from 5-8pm, any four rolls for just $12.95.

If delicious, reasonably priced sushi is what you seek (not to mention an opportunity to get drunk on the cheap), look no further than Cherin Sushi.
